Commemorating the 80th Anniversary of VE Day

Marking 80 Years Since Victory in Europe

On 8th May 2025, we mark a momentous milestone – the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) Day. It was on this day in 1945 that the Allied forces accepted Nazi Germany’s unconditional surrender, bringing an end to the Second World War in Europe. The announcement sparked celebrations across the UK and around the world, as years of conflict and sacrifice gave way to hope and peace.

At H. E. Services, VE Day holds deep significance, not just as a historic event, but as a personal one for many within our company.

Personal Connections to Service

Our chairman, Hugh Edeleanu, proudly served in the British Army – a tradition of service passed down from his father, Ion-Dan Edeleanu. Born in 1925, Ion-Dan served as a medical officer in the British Army, offering care and compassion amidst the chaos of war.

Our National Hire Manager, Malcolm, also shares a strong family connection to the war. His grandfather served as a Royal Marine Engineer, and his great uncle served aboard HMS Kelly – a vessel known for its bravery under the command of Lord Louis Mountbatten.

These stories, among others, keep the memory of VE Day alive and personal for us at H. E. Services.

Supporting Ex-Forces Personnel Today

At H. E. Services, our commitment to supporting the Armed Forces community extends beyond remembrance. We’ve proudly employed numerous ex-forces personnel, recognising the valuable skills, discipline, and dedication they bring to the workplace.

Through our sister company, Diggerland Plant Training School, we provide specialist plant training to help veterans build careers in the plant hire and construction industries. By offering training, support, and long-term employment opportunities, we aim to ensure those who have served our country continue to thrive in civilian life.

A Day of Remembrance and Gratitude

VE Day is more than a date on the calendar. It is a solemn reminder of the sacrifices made by millions – those who fought, those who served, and those who waited at home. It is also a time to honour the courage, unity, and determination that defined a generation.

As we commemorate the 80th VE Day, we pause to reflect on the lives lost, the families impacted, and the freedoms we enjoy today because of their bravery.
