There is no doubt that a major part of the success of H.E. Services (Plant Hire) Ltd can be attributed to the current Managing Director, Peter Durey. Peter started with H.E. Services in February 1982 after Hugh met the then young Peter whilst Hugh was carrying out some Military training at Weymouth. Peter’s father was Commandant of the Army Training site and Hugh remembers to this day meeting young Peter and vividly remembers Peter doing wheelies around the Army Training Area on his motorbike!
In 1987 he was promoted to Workshop Foreman and assisted in setting up of the new workshops at Holborough Works in Snodland, a much-needed new facility from our previous tiny shed. By 1990 Peter progressed to Snodland Depot Manager. In 1994 H.E. Services moved from Snodland to the current site in Strood and Peter remained Depot Manager of now an even larger depot. A year or so later Peter handed over the Depot Manager’s position and started the newly formed ‘Company Service Department’, heading up the mechanical aspects of the whole organisation, not just Strood Depot. Peter continued to rise in the organisation and in 1998 was offered and accepted the position as Operations Director.
In 1999, when H.E. Services restructured in the current Group format, Peter was promoted yet again to Managing Director of H.E. Services (Plant Hire) Ltd., the position he occupies today. At that time there were only seven Depots, but with Peter’s hard work and determination more Depots were opened. 25 years ago Peter was an Apprentice Fitter — today he is Managing Director of ‘Britain’s favourite company for excavator hire.’ Well done Peter and everyone within the H.E. Group hopes you enjoy the Grand Prix.
